Granted not as much as elsewhere in the world but still.

Some cars came a cropper and ended in ditches or on their roof.

Kinja'd!!!

((The tape is round the car to notify other road users the police are aware of it and not to phone the police again and again about it))

One brave soul thought he’d take his usual daily driver.

Kinja'd!!!

Came to some difficulty though.

Kinja'd!!!

Didn’t stop some idiots getting on the road.

Kinja'd!!!

This idiot was down south, not a northerner.

Some areas got out the snow tracks.

Those ones are 3.0 litre diesels.

Kinja'd!!!

The BMW X5s haven’t faired as well.

Three ARV X5s crashed last year, one into a ditch in the snow.

Kinja'd!!!

They have been replaced with Volvo V90s and XC90s now (Ford Transits and a couple of Toyota Hiluxs) .

Given our driving culture I am not surprised by what the police does when it snows here. They literally close the roads.

Kinja'd!!!

I guess you’re not welcomed to Sonora.

Ye’, we have snow gates on some high roads that are prone to heavy snow.

Oh but I’m talking about dual carriage ways

Ye’, that top one is actually dual carriageway.

It’s at quite an altitude with no surrounding cover that you get a lot of snow settling as well as strong winds typically from the west causing vehicles to spin out or over-correct when a heavy gust comes in.

Before the M6 motorway was put in through Cumbria, this was the main route into Cumbria and into south West Scotland. Though the motorway takes the vast majority of traffic, it is often still a very busy road, just not enough in the winter to keep snow from settling from heavy traffic flow.

3lt diesel doesn’t sound like much. But a bit of snow - it’d get sideways.

Those Volvo wags RWD?

AWD. V90 235bhp, 2.0 D5 Powerpulse AWD Auto.

The Volvos are primarily RPU (road policing units) that are also ARVs (armed response units).

Most U.K. police forces have a fast toy or two but generally the vast majority are local traffic cars or something with pace but not overly fast.
